余白を作る工房

MA— the interval

The pause between ink and paper.
We work inside it.

Fifteen stones. From any angle you count fourteen.
The one you cannot see is the garden.

We make three things — paper that waits,
ink that remembers, and the space between them.

Each sheet is pulled in winter, when the water slows down.

Spring water —
in the inkstone’s small sea,
a mountain reflected.
Summer room —
the sound of a brush set down
is the only guest.
Autumn evening —
the white of the paper
darkens first.
First snow —
the characters never written
give off their light.

One breath, one circle.
Where it fails to close — that is the door.

The studio keeps no hours.
It keeps mornings.

Ninenzaka, Higashiyama, Kyoto Paper by appointment. Knock softly.
